Haltwhistle Community Campus In Venture With Flashlight Films
The newly established Haltwhistle Community Campus in Haltwhistle which has brought together the former Haltwhistle First and South Tynedale Middle schools sharing the same site in the small industrial town in West Northumberland has gone another step further in its innovative approach.

Working with Flashlight Films, a DVD prospectus for parents now supplements the old printed brochure. Using the medium of film and sound prospective parents can see and hear about the school through using the innovative DVD which allows them to select the aspects of school life that they want to learn more about.
The DVD begins with an introduction about how the 'Campus' was established and what it is. Parents are then presented with menu of different short films to watch which cover aspects such as 'school tours', 'uniform', curriculum, 'travelling to school' and several others.
As a prospectus it is easy to use with a DVD remote control and will also work on most computers with DVD playing hard and software.
Principal Mike Routledge says 'Not all parents are able to take up the opportunity to visit us on our open days. We hope that through the DVD we are able to take the campus to them.'
The film has been produced by Haltwhistle based Flashlight Films, a father and son business comprising of Ian & Matthew Brown.
Ian & Matthew of Flashlight Films both already knew a thing or two about the campus as Matthew attended both of the former schools on the site and Ian was Deputy Head Community of the old middle school for 23 years until September 2007. That background helped a great deal in focusing the ideas and using their film making skills deliver a DVD that captures the ethos of the new school.
Ian of Flashlight Films says "It was quite a challenge to make as there were no other examples of a prospectus on video for us to look at, so we started with a 'blank canvas', My education background helped draw a structure together but Matthew certainly had to use his creative editing skills to the full to make it work so that the final product is a very informative DVD which is also fun to use.'
The DVD will be provided to new parents and is ideal for families considering moving to area as the DVD not only provides information about the school but also the surrounding area.
